Well I’ve finally done it! The two books I mentioned in my blogs (www.westcoastimages.com.au) whilst we were on the Isle of Skye are now being published in an exclusive print run of just 5 copies of each. This will be for each family of Grandchildren (and Step Granchildren) and one copy for ourselves to keep at YaYa’s house!

Being a primary school teacher all those years has to pay off and writing the Children’s Picture books was an inspiration from the time we spent living on the Isle of Skye recently. Dedicated to my grandchildren in celebration of their highlander bloodline I hope it brings them a little closer to their ancestors even though they were all born and live in Perth, Western Australia.

I wrote the texts for both books in Willie McLeod’s house curled up with a laptop and a blanket in front of the open fire. Unfortunately, back in Australia, my computer crashed and I lost the second book, and had to rewrite it here at home in Perth, Western Australia. But since I had already written it once, it came back fairly easily.

The books share my absolute besotted love of Highland Cattle, Willie McLeod’s House which became our home away from home, and the beautiful magical Island of Skye that calls my heart back frequently and nourishes my soul.

The language is based on repetition for early readers to be shared and enjoyed by parents and children alike, but the books also combine non-fictional facts and a glossary for those learners who want to explore more. What can I say, I’m a teacher – it has to be educational as well as fun!

It is my hope that my Grandies will feel the love and connection that I feel to my ancestral homeland as they turn the pages enjoying my images taken on Skye, and the story of the journey to find what you discover is always inside you!
