YaYa’s (Kyle’s Mum)Birthday 2022

Every birthday is bitter-sweet since Kyle died and I don’t get to see little Cash. Because it’s always sad for me and I cry when I visit Kyle (at the crash site in Gidgigannup, at his Memorial Rock at Pinnaroo, or at the dunes in Peasholm St Dog Beach). I decided that this year I wouldn’t go on my actual birthday (Sat 19th March) instead I would try not to cry that day and make it a happy day!

So I went on Sun 20th March to Pinnaroo and then onto Christina’ (Kyle’s sister) for lunch with her and my grandchildren (Cash’s cousins) – Amy (10yrs), Connor (7 yrs) and Piper (5yrs). We had a lovely grazing lunch and a swim in their lovely pool – all that was missing from the family was Kyle and Cash (and my SIL, Yea who was working away).

Celebrating the birthing of my peal, harvesting my pearl, choosing a bail and chain for it to be set, saying good-bye until it’s ready to collect and wear! So excited I can’t wait – it wall always remind me of Kyle in a way as I felt him with me today!

On my actual birthday, my husband, Vince, gave me a wonderful birthday gift – a Willie Creek Pearls “Harvest Your Own Pearl” Private Couples Tour in the city at Elizabeth Quay. It was a two hour educational extravaganza, with Margaret River bubbles, tasting the delicacy of Pearl Meat, and the excitement of birthing (harvesting) my birthday pearl that could be valued anywhere between $500 – $5000. Even the Broome Peal Master doesn’t know until the Pinctada Maxima oyster is opened and all is revealed! If the pearl is under $500 they give you a voucher (as they don’t let you have a sub standard pearl), if it’s over $5000 they keep it and give you a $5000 showroom voucher to spend. I felt Kyle around me and I was sure not only that I would be keep the pearl that was inside but that it would be a nice one and worth more than $500 – I was right – my pearl is the most gorgeous pearl I have ever seen and valued at $1900! I was crying because I knew that Kyle was sharing in this gift (even though I had tried to have a happy day without tears). I shared my story with a confused Mihoco who was giving us the tour and she gave me a great big hug! I felt that Kyle had a hand in making sure his Mum got her monies worth! He is looking after me – my guardian angel son!

The whole experience was ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! Mihoco (Miki) was amazing throughout and Vince and I both loved every single minute of it. She and Carol (in the showroom) couldn’t do enough to help us decide on how best to have my new “baby boy” peal set. It was a once in a lifetime experience for someone who loves pearls like I do – a little extravagance and bit of joy in my life for a change.

Every day is a struggle without Kyle and Cash, but I do my best to go on and make them proud and Vince is my rock to lean on and always by my side – I am so lucky to have him in my life.

My Mum and Dad and sister, Jackie, sent me some money from Darwin, and Christina and family gave me a Gift Card. So I ended up with some new sets of PJs from Peter Alexander – very spoilt!

Some of my French Bulldog Friends sent me this!
