February 2021 saw a raging bushfire destroy the Perth Hills, including the area of Kyle’s Crash. When it was finally safe to go to check it out, I was totally devastated at what I saw. Things were burnt to a cinder and nothing but the concrete footing and metal bracket remained of the wooden cross my father had so lovingly made for Kyle. I was in tears!

But like a Phoenix from the ashes, in March 2021 we organised a new plaque, a marble one, that wont be damaged in the same way should a fire come this way again. We modelled it on the plaque that we choose for his rock memorial at Pinnaroo, and it looks great!
